This class covers the fundamentals of major styles such as tutting, robot, snaking, Boogaloo, locking and animation. This class is suitable for students of all levels of experience but is geared towards beginners and intermediate levels. The class consists of drills, choreography and some history
Fridays at 10AM Drop-in Class
Rachel Schmidt was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA and received her early dance training from Robert Kelley and Diane Cypher of Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre. After graduating from Butler University with a degree in Dance she joined the Alonzo King LINES Ballet training program and danced as a company member of dawsondanceSF in San Francisco, CA. She later joined Brooklyn Ballet and Visions Contemporary Ballet in New York, NY and performed at the Guggenheim Museum during Dance Lab NY’s Alchemy Lab Cycle. She has performed in works by Alonzo King, Maurya Kerr, Sidra Bell, Gregory Dawson, Wade Schaaf, Brian Enos, Mike Tyus and Kia Smith. She is currently in her fourth season with Chicago Repertory Ballet.

Christie’s Spiral Body Techniques™ class emphasizes ease in movement, with an eye towards dance career longevity. We will practice finding specificity in idiosyncratic movement and explore our ball-and-socket joints in spiral based movement. This class will incorporate ample floorwork and work its way to standing and traveling phrases. Knee pads are optional, but recommended. This class is geared towards advanced and professional dancers, but may be appropriate for some intermediate level movers.

Wade Schaaf (They/Them) hails from the Chicago area and graduated Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater arts (emphasis on dance performance). During their professional career, Wade danced for multiple companies including the Ohio Ballet, State Street Ballet Santa Barbara, The Omaha Theater Ballet, Thodos Dance Chicago, and River North Chicago Dance Company. During their time dancing, Wade worked with numerous choreographers like Septime Weber, Stephen Mills, Frank Chaves, Laurie Stallings, and the Tony Award-winning choreographer Ann Reinking. Wade had the privilege to dance such roles as Tybalt in Robin Welche’s Romeo and Juliet, Snow King in Welche’s The Nutcracker, and Jonathan in Kennet Oberly’s “Dracula” as well, had the role of Mayor Carter Harrison set on them in the Thodos/Reinking collaboration, The White City.

Eric Skinner has been working nationally and internationally as a performer, choreographer, director and teacher for thirty years, originally training as a gymnast before receiving a B.A. in Dance from Butler University’s Jordan School of Fine Arts in Indianapolis. Collaborating with artists from numerous different disciplines has enabled him to create unique, deeply personal work that explores what it means to be human. Eric was a founding member of Oregon Ballet Theatre and founding member, performer, choreographer, and Artistic Associate with Bodyvox in Portland Oregon for 20 years. He also had his own contemporary dance company skinnerkirk | Dance Ensemble for 19 years.

Tap dance is simultaneously music and movement. This class draws on a diversity of approaches to integrating the basic fundamentals of these two elements. The emphasis will be on establishing a strong technical foundation of vocabulary, execution, clarity, and time.
Through warm-up exercises, improvisation, and choreography, students will learn how to shift weight, execute motions efficiently, recognize styles of music, and express rhythm through sound and movement.

This Adult Pointe class is designed for dancers who have already developed a strong foundation in ballet technique and are ready to take their training to the next level. Whether you’re returning to pointe after a break or are new to it as an adult, this class will help you safely and effectively build strength, flexibility, and control on pointe.

Adult Ballet: Intermediate/Advanced is a class for those with previous experience and confidence in the technique. The class will work on more complex steps and will move at a quicker pace.
Ballet is a great physical activity that involves cardio, stretching, concentration, music, and memory. It burns calories, lengthens and strengthens muscles and contributes to an all-around sense of well-being.
This is an engaging, upbeat class suited for dancers with considerable ballet experience. Teachers focus on helping students adjust their technical placement and posture for increased strength, mobility, and control. Dancers will work on pirouettes, beats in petit allegro, and other advanced techniques.

This class is for students with at least 5 years of ballet training and for those who are on pointe or ready to go on pointe. The class will consist of a 30-minute pointe class. Students in levels 4A + 4B are required to take this class as strength training if they haven’t been recommended for pre pointe/pointe work. Only students who have been recommended for Pre Pointe will go on pointe at the end of the year if they pass the assessment.

Modern originated in revolt of ballet and has transformed the dance world. Sometimes called contemporary, modern has an expressive and free feel while also being based in technique. Dancers explore rhythm, floor work and traveling through the space. This class is great for the rebel, the wild at heart, the explorer.
Broadway Jazz incorporates turns, jumps, and kicks in story-telling and characterization that one would see in a live or filmed musical production. An emphasis is placed on athleticism, exaggeration, and high energy combinations

Join us for our first ever Mini-Musical! Kids will learn songs and dances from the movie Trolls. This is open to all students who are enrolled in a Dovetail Musical Theatre classes, pre-MT and up. Rehearsals will be Saturdays in the fall from 2:45-4pm. Watch Studio 1 turn into a theatre! The performance will take place at Dovetail Studios on December 13th. The registration price includes rehearsals, as well as the production of the show!

Get ready to move, groove, and have a blast! Our Youth Hip Hop Dance Class is a high-energy, fun-filled session designed to teach kids the fundamentals of hip hop dance in a supportive and creative environment. Youth Musical Theatre Dance is a sharp and fast-paced technique that incorporates jazz technique with the big stages of broadway in mind. Youth Ballet is for the child who has a capacity to learn quickly, is passionate about ballet, and looking to expand their dance studies. This class meets twice a week in order to further the childs understanding of ballet technique.
